Prospective Parliamentary Candidate for Amber Valley

We need change to get our country back on its feet.

Many people had high hopes when Labour got elected in 1997, but the truth is that this Government hasn’t made Britain a fairer society. The gap between rich and poor has grown, we’ve still got old people who can’t heat their homes when it’s cold and the school system is letting down too many children. Our national finances are drowning in debt; millions are living with the misery of unemployment; communities are broken by crime and anti-social behaviour; and families are falling apart at a record rate.

The most urgent task is bringing the deficit down - essential if we are to avoid interest rate rises that will damage future investment. To compete in the coming decades we need to overhaul our economy. We need to encourage and value aspiration; we need less regulation and fewer taxes to encourage businesses and to create jobs. But there is much more for a new Conservative government to do than just fixing our broken economy, vital though that is. In recent weeks we have set out our draft manifesto for tackling our broken society.
