Matthew Joyes has been selected by local Conservatives to stand as the Conservative Candidate in the Ripley and Marehay by-election on Amber Valley Borough Council following the death of Cllr Geoff Carlile.

Matthew is 24 and has lived in the Borough his entire life. He serves as a Ripley Town Councillor and was elected as Deputy Leader of the Council in May.

Matthew now works as a risk management advisor having previously worked for Derbyshire Police and run a small business locally. He also volunteers across Derbyshire with St John Ambulance.

Cllr Ron Ashton, the Mayor of Ripley and Borough Councillor for the Ripley and Marehay Ward comments: "I'm delighted that Matthew has been selected. He is very intelligent and hardworking and I know we would make an excellent Borough councillor for this ward.

I Hope you will give him your support on 17th September."
