April 2009 - Chris Grayling,
Shadow Home Secretary, Visits Amber Valley

Conservative Prospective Parliamentary Candidate for Amber
Valley, Nigel Mills welcomed Shadow Home Secretary Chris
Grayling to Ripley in April 2009 to discuss how to tackle
anti-social behaviour.
Chris and Nigel met with residents on the Elms Estate in Ripley
to discuss local anti-social behaviour and Conservative policies
to tackle the problem.
Nigel then took
Chris to meet
Derbyshire Chief Constable,
Mick Creedon to discuss policing in Derbyshire and the problems
caused by under-funding from central government.
Chris commented,
“The government has failed to tackle crime—especially violent
crime and anti-social behaviour. We need to address social
breakdown—but we also need to take tough action on criminals.”
“We will put
victims first—not criminals—and if we have to change the Human
Rights Act, we will.”
Nigel added
“Across Amber Valley people have told me about problems with
anti-social behaviour and the difficulty in tackling it.”
“Chris wanted to
meet residents who have been suffering it—and I’m delighted they
feel that our policies will make a real difference and help stop
this blight on our communities.”
