June 2009 - Conservatives take control of Derbyshire County Council

David Cameron hailed a "remarkable" set of Local Election results after the Conservatives gained control of councils across the country in the June elections - including Derbyshire County Council which had been in Labour control for 28 years.

Incoming Conservative Council leader, Cllr Andrew Lewer said the result showed the Labour Party was 'in terminal decline.'

Locally in Amber Valley, Conservatives took the seats of Heage, Ripley, Alfreton, Greater Heanor, Horlsey and retained the seat of Alport.
