At a meeting of Amber Valley Borough Council on 23 July Cllr C. Emmas-Williams, the Deputy Leader of the self-styled Socialist Council, proposed to add additional strategic sites to those already agreed in the Core Strategy. The paper before the meeting identified four sites in the Alfreton Urban Area amounting to 790 extra dwellings.
On top of that Cllr Emmas-Williams also recommended a further 600 dwellings at Lily Street Farm. Local Labour councillors have consistently voted against the Core Strategy prepared by the previous Conservative administration. However there has been a complete about turn in Socialist thinking. At the meeting local Labour councillors, Cllr Marlene Bennett, Cllr John Walker and Cllr Gail Dolman all voted to accept these additional houses.
